JUNE & JULY: Detroit City Is The Place To Be by Mark Binelli

Detroit City is the Place to Be is no love letter. It’s a gritty and honest view of where Detroit was, and how far it had fallen. He explores why a city that was once so illustrious was allowed to die. A city that was rife with culture and promise, but has now lost a quarter of its population in the last decade, with families moving out every 12 minutes. But amongst the trenches of the negative, a ray of hope does glow.

Mark will visit First Container on June 22nd at 4pm

JULY & AUGUST: Writing My Wrongs by Shaka Senghor

“Writing about my wrongs was the first of many steps that I took to atone for taking a man’s life. Through the transformative power of writing, I accepted responsibility for my decisions and have used my experience to help others avoid the path that I took in my youth. This is my story and it is my hope that by Writing My Wrongs, I can help others right their wrongs.” – Shaka Senghor

Shaka will be visiting First Container in Late July. Check back at firstcontainer.com for exact date and time shortly.

Additional books on the way and will be posted on this page.

Collision Works creates spaces that bring people together and uses personal stories to build empathy. The result is resilient communities. Stories connect us, help us learn, and motivate – a catalyst for personal and community growth.

This community development project consists of a public event space, collaborative work areas, a mentoring program, and a soon to be developed 46-room hotel made of recycled shipping containers. It is founded on a hybrid profit/non-profit mixed-use model and designed for sustainability. It is also designed to be fun. Yes, fun!
