This summer we launched a pilot program to connect longtime Detroiters with city newcomers. As far as first runs go, we did alright. We created 30 pairs of new sparks and held three get together events over the summer to talk about how it had been going. In the coming months we’ll try again to engage the current group and recruit some new sparks.
Many people told us they met people they would have never otherwise come across and pairs were able to share new and established perspectives on the city we all love. This kind of work is hard and slow. It takes time to build relationships and we firmly believe that even two new friendships will make a difference as we all move through The Great Transition (of Detroit) together.
Also: We are looking for someone to take this project on in a volunteer capacity so we can give our participants more time and energy and coordinate more and better Spark events. If this is you, send us a note.
